Latar Belakang dan Pendidikan

Prof. Associate Dr. Wan Nazjmi Bin Mohamed Fisol was born in Kampung Pulau Tengah, Pendang, Kedah Darul Aman on April 26, 1977. After graduating from Maktab Mahmud, Alor Setar high school in 1997, he continued his studies to a Bachelor of Shariah degree at Universiti Al -Azhar, Egypt until 2001. After that he continued his studies for a second Bachelor’s degree in the field of International Business (Finance & Banking) at MSU until 2006. He then received a Master’s Degree in Economics (Finance & Banking) from UUM in 2010 and a Doctorate Philosophy in Islamic Finance and Banking from UniSHAMS in 2015.

Career

He started his career as a lecturer at UniSHAMS starting in 2006 at Kulliyyah Muamalat and also under the Center for Islamic Finance Studies and Research (CIFER), UniSHAMS. While at UniSHAMS, he has held several important administrative positions including as Deputy Dean of Kulliyyah Muamalat, Dean of Kulliyyah Muamalat and Director of the Academic Management Center. He has also served as the Director of the Graduate Management and Research Center as well as serving as the Deputy Rector of Alumni Student Affairs. His last position at UniSHAMS was as Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and International Affairs. Now he holds the position as Rector/Chief Executive of the Islamic College of Technology International (KITAB) Penang from 01 December 2023 until now.

Experience and Presentation

As an Academic member, he was also appointed as an academic advisory panel for several institutions outside. Among them are as MQA Assessment Panel, External Examiner in the Field of Islamic Management, Faculty of Business Management and Professional Learning (MSU), External Examiner Panel of Education & Social Science Cluster (OUM), Senior Academic Fellow of Baitulmal Professional College (KPB) and Technical Advisor for Business Management Diploma , Sungai Petani Vocational College 2.

Since 2006 until now, he has actively presented working papers, delivered lectures in various seminars, symposiums and workshops both at the national and international levels. Among the titles of his presentations are “The Engineering of Islamic Legal Opinion (Ijtihad) On the Maqasid Al-Shari’ah Development in the Assessment of Islamic Financial Products”; “Maqasid Shariah in Corporate Social Responsibility of Shari’ah Compliant Companies”; “Enhancing halal sustainability through Maqasid Shariah framework in Malaysian Islamic public equity funds” and “Financial Technology (FinTech) Services: Analysis from the Perspective of Maqasid Al-Shariah”.

He is also actively involved in the field of consulting and community in the country and abroad. This includes being a member of the Islamic Economics & Finance research cluster under YADIM, a member of the waqf research cluster under the Penang Island State Mufti Department, an editor for the International Journal of Zakat and Islamic Philanthropy (LZNK) and an editor for the Emerald-Scopus Journal.

Until now, he has successfully produced almost 45 students either at the Master’s Degree level or at the Doctor of Philosophy Degree level. As an Academician, his expertise and specialization is in the field of Maqasid Shariah, Fiqh Muamalat, Social Finance and Islamic banking.

Background and Education

Career

He started his career as a lecturer at UniSHAMS starting in 2006 at Kulliyyah Muamalat and also under the Center for Islamic Finance Studies and Research (CIFER), UniSHAMS. UniSHAMS, he has held several important administrative positions including as Deputy Dean of Kulliyyah Muamalat, Dean of Kulliyyah Muamalat and Director of the Academic Management Center. He has also served as the Director of the Graduate Management and Research Center as well as serving as the Deputy Rector of Alumni Student Affairs. His last position at UniSHAMS was as Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and International Affairs.
